Desperate Rescue Ends in Heartbreak
A man plunged to his death in the English Channel after falling overboard from a yacht near Brighton. The grim discovery came after a female passenger raised the alarm at 10:20am near the Rampion wind farm.
Sussex Police confirmed coastguards recovered the man’s body. His family have been informed, with investigations now underway.
Massive Search Operation Launched
The RNLI scrambled lifeboats from Newhaven and Shoreham to the scene. They were supported by a HM Coastguard helicopter, a fixed-wing plane, and two nearby vessels in an intense search effort.
“At 11.40am on Sunday, police were informed by HM Coastguard that a man had fallen overboard off Newhaven. A search led by the Coastguard was carried out, and a body was recovered from the sea. The man has been identified and his next of kin informed,” a police spokesperson said.
Yacht Towed as Probe Continues
The yacht involved was towed back to shore as police and emergency teams investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they piece together what happened in this shocking incident off the Sussex coast.
