Maidstone Murder Chaos: 11th Man Jailed for 11 Years
An 11th man caught up in the violent street brawl in Maidstone that ended with a murder has finally been locked up for over a decade.
Kayode Badejo, 20, was sentenced to 11 years behind bars for his part in the savage street fight that led to the death of 21-year-old Andre Bent.
Knife Attack Killed Andre Bent in 2019
Andre was fatally stabbed in the early hours of 25 August 2019 after a chaotic fight broke out. CCTV footage showed multiple men punching, kicking, and attacking each other with belts.
Teenager Vasilios Ofogeli, 17, got life in prison in May 2020 for Andre’s murder. He was also convicted for stabbing three men during the same violent rampage.
Wider Gang Gets Sentenced for Violent Disorder
- Before Ofogeli’s sentencing, nine other men were jailed for violent disorder at Reading Crown Court, each receiving up to two years and two months.
- Now Badejo, formerly of Crystal Palace, London, has pleaded guilty to wounding with intent after stabbing one of Ofogeli’s associates in the back during the fight.
Dangerous Offender Locked Up with Tough Conditions
Badejo was also sentenced for firearms offences and aggravated vehicle taking, with sentences running concurrently. The court branded him a “dangerous offender.”
He must serve at least two thirds of his sentence before parole is considered, plus an extra three years on licence after release.
“This week marks two years since Andre’s tragic death. His life was cut short by appalling and senseless violence,” said Detective Superintendent Patrick Milford.
“We are committed to justice for Andre and his loved ones and will pursue anyone involved in this heartbreaking ordeal.”
Meanwhile, two more suspects linked to the street mayhem remain either in custody or on bail as investigations continue.
