Kent Police have firmly dismissed recent social media chatter claiming stabbings in Dartford as pure fiction.
False Alarms Spark Panic Online
Posts flooded local Dartford social media pages alleging a young girl was stabbed outside Iceland on the High Street and a man in his 30s attacked in a nearby park. The rumours were fuelled by reports of a police helicopter hovering overhead. Some even shared a fake police appeal, adding fuel to the fire.
Increased Police Presence After Fatal Weekend Stabbing
Police have confirmed that while there was a tragic fatal stabbing last weekend, no fresh attacks have been reported. In response, officers have boosted patrols across Dartford and surrounding areas.
“The area has seen a rise in disorderly behaviour recently,” Kent Police stated. “We will be proactive to prevent further incidents.”
Section 60 Powers Activated Across Key Dartford Hotspots
From Friday 21 April at 2:30pm until Saturday 23 April at 2:30pm, officers have been granted extra powers to stop and search anyone or any vehicle suspected of carrying weapons. These powers cover:
- Instone Road
- Home Gardens
- Highfield Road
- Lowfield Street
- Westgate Road
Chief Inspector Will Lay, Dartford’s District Commander, warned: “Officers will be patrolling the town centre to deter violent crime. Anyone coming here with intent to offend will be stopped. Those caught with weapons or drugs will be arrested without delay.”
Police Statement: No New Stabbings Reported
On Saturday 22 April 2023, Kent Police confirmed there have been no reported stabbings in Dartford following the widespread but false rumours online.
