A 55-year-old man from Sheffield has been sentenced to 15 years in prison following a high-speed road crash that left two men seriously injured and a brutal assault outside a local pub.
Michael Tyrrell, of Moss House Court, Mosborough, caused chaos on 3 October 2024 when he drove his BMW X5 on the wrong side of the road. He aggressively attempted to block in a Volkswagen Polo before chasing it at high speed and smashing into it.
The Polo was then forced into a bus, seriously injuring its driver, a 37-year-old man, and a passenger aged 49. Tyrrell fled the scene but was soon identified as the owner of the BMW. Forensic evidence and CCTV footage confirmed he was behind the wheel. He was arrested on 12 November and charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Just months later, on 19 April 2025, Tyrrell struck again. Outside the Sherwood pub in Birley, he viciously assaulted a 38-year-old man, knocking him unconscious and causing serious injuries, including a fractured skull. CCTV footage and witness statements were key in securing his conviction.
Tyrrell initially pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of assault at Sheffield Crown Court on 31 October 2025. On 12 January 2026, he changed his plea to guilty for the dangerous driving offences. On 10 April 2026, Tyrrell was sentenced to 15 years in prison, delivering justice for the three seriously injured men.
