A 33-year-old woman was found dead after armed police officers swarmed a tower block in Blackley, Manchester, leading to a murder investigation and an outpouring of grief from friends and family.
Emergency services arrived at the Broadmoss Drive estate on April 19 following reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of Amber O’Brien at the scene.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody as inquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Anna Barker of Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team said: “Our thoughts, first and foremost, remain with the victim’s family as they grieve their loved one.”
She added: “We have a man in custody and detectives are questioning him as we try to establish the full circumstances that led to this tragic death.”
Friends and members of the community have shared heartfelt tributes to Amber on social media. One friend described her as “amazing” and said: “Her smile will always live on. She was the life and soul of the party.”
Other tributes included comments such as: “She had the most beautiful, gentle soul.” and “Her smile was one you would never forget – it beamed and brightened everyone else’s.” Another tribute called Amber “a beautiful woman with a smile that could light up any room and a laugh so loud it made you laugh.”
Forensic teams have been examining the scene for evidence as Greater Manchester Police continue their investigation. The area remains cordoned off while officers maintain a visible presence in the community.
DCI Barker reassured local residents: “We believe there is no wider risk to the public, but ask anyone with concerns to speak with officers on patrol.”
Amber’s family have been informed of the death, with trained officers providing support during this difficult and devastating time.
