A driver heading to work ended up in a ditch and is now facing serious trouble after being caught over three times the legal alcohol limit.
This shocking crash is just one of many incidents recorded during Sussex Police’s no-nonsense Christmas drink and drug-driving crackdown from December 1 to January 1. The force arrested a total of 279 people during this period.
So far, 47 offenders have already been convicted and handed driving bans.

- Gary Cooper, 32, Chichester: Refused breath or blood tests. Received a four-week suspended jail sentence and an eight-month driving ban.
- Robert Delacourt, 81, Newhaven: Over the limit. Fined and banned for 16 months.
- Gideon Mungai, 24, Lancing: Caught drink-driving. Fined and banned for 28 days.
- Mubashar Khan, 38, Eastbourne: Swerved over the limit. Fined and banned for 20 months.
- Christopher Taylor, 27, Carmarthenshire: Over the limit and uninsured. Fined and banned for 12 months.
- Karen Pfeffer, 44, Worthing: Given a 16-month ban and ordered to pay compensation.
- Archey Olley, 19, Hastings: Banned for 17 months and fined.
- George Hemming, 20, Worthing: Hit with a 16-month ban and fines.
- Alouis Marimirofa, 39, Southampton: Caught over three times the limit. Received a 25-month ban plus significant fines.
- Errol Manning, 50, Crawley: Fined and banned for 18 months.
- Jason Ward, 33, Eastbourne: 14-month ban and fines.
- Emily Saunders, 29, Brighton: Banned for 12 months and fined.
- Mark Davies, 41, Hastings: 20-month ban and penalties.
- Helen Brooks, 36, Worthing: Fined and given a 16-month ban.
- Nolan Bird, 50, Bexhill: Eight-week suspended sentence, 36-month driving ban, and fines.
Sussex Police Issue Stern Warning
Drink and drug-driving remains a major cause of deadly crashes in Sussex, according to police.
The punishments are harsh – including prison time, hefty driving bans, large fines, and damaging impacts on jobs and insurance premiums.
“Driving under the influence is never worth the risk. If you suspect someone is impaired, call the police or Crimestoppers anonymously,” Sussex Police urge the public.
