A drug dealer from Orpington has been locked up for four years after trying to ditch drugs from a moving car on the M20 motorway.

High-Speed Chase on the M20

At 6.30pm on Friday 15 November 2024, police attempted to stop Akindele Balogun’s car in Ashford, Kent. Officers were aware that he had broken his bail conditions. Balogun, 43, was on license for previous drug supply offences and was under investigation for breaching probation rules, including sneaking out of London and providing a false address.

When police activated blue lights and sirens, Balogun did not stop. Instead, he drove erratically, weaving between lanes and using the hard shoulder.

During the reckless pursuit, officers observed him throwing white packages onto the motorway.

Drugs Found After Police Box-In

Police boxed the car in and arrested Balogun. A search of the vehicle uncovered two wraps of cocaine and two mobile phones. Additionally, officers recovered four more wrapped Class A drugs from the hard shoulder where they had been discarded.

Balogun was taken to Folkestone Police Station and charged with supplying Class A drugs.

Crack, Heroin and Cash Busted at Home

The following day, police raided his home in Emerald House, Orpington. Inside his bedroom, officers found a large block of crack cocaine and heroin hidden in shorts pockets. Another block of heroin was discovered in a utility cupboard, along with £450 in cash concealed in the kitchen.

Convicted and Sentenced

After a weeklong trial at Canterbury Crown Court, Balogun was found guilty of two counts of possession with intent to supply on 2 February 2026. A month later, he was sentenced to four years imprisonment.

Detective Constable Martin Aird said: “Balogun showed a clear determination to evade officers and dispose of evidence while driving dangerously on a busy motorway. He put other drivers at risk, and thanks to the quick actions of pursuing officers, the vehicle was safely stopped. I welcome the sentence handed down by the justice system, and hope it serves as a warning to anyone considering entering the drug trade and believing they can outrun the consequences.”
