A serious crash involving a motorbike on the A2 westbound at Gravesend caused major traffic jams during rush hour on the morning of April 1. The incident occurred between Tollgate and Pepper Hill, prompting emergency services, including the air ambulance, to rush to the scene.
The road was completely closed from 7:10am, with traffic at a standstill and queues extending back towards the M2. The closure lasted until just before 8:30am, when the road reopened to traffic.
South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) confirmed that the motorcyclist was injured and taken to hospital. The rider sustained injuries including damage to their arm. SECAmb stated: “We were called around 7am after reports that a person had fallen from their motorbike near Northfleet. Multiple crews treated the rider on-site before the Air Ambulance Charity joined in. The patient was then rushed by road to Princess Royal University Hospital in Farnborough for further treatment.”
Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported significant delays from A227 Wrotham Road to Pepper Hill, with congestion backing up to M2 Junction 1. Drivers were diverted off the A2 via Shorne into Gravesend. Although all lanes reopened after over an hour of blockage, lengthy delays continued.
