Zana Adil Mohammed, 48, from Huddersfield, has been sentenced to 62 months in prison after pleading guilty to multiple sexual offences committed against a teenage boy more than a decade ago. The sentencing took place at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday, 9 April.
The offences occurred in December 2011 and involved the grooming and abuse of a vulnerable young boy in Huddersfield. The victim bravely reported the abuse, which prompted a police investigation leading to Mohammed’s conviction.
Mohammed was found guilty of five counts of sexual activity with a child and four counts of making indecent images and pseudo-photographs of children.
During the investigation, Mohammed fled the UK and travelled to Iraq. Police tracked him down and discovered in October 2025 that he planned to return to Britain. He was arrested upon arrival at Birmingham International Airport on 16 October 2025.
Following his arrest, Mohammed appeared before Leeds Magistrates’ Court on 18 October 2025. The case was reopened after Kirklees safeguarding officers re-investigated the original rape allegation from December 2011, which ultimately led to his arrest and conviction.
