An 18-year-old Libyan asylum seeker has denied sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl and exposing himself on a coach travelling from Birmingham to London.
Walid Abdulbasit, who arrived in the UK 18 months ago and was under the care of Birmingham Children’s Trust, pleaded not guilty at Birmingham Crown Court.
The alleged incident took place shortly after the coach departed Birmingham on 18 February. The teenage victim reported the incident to the driver, which led to Abdulbasit’s arrest at Rugby Motorway services on the M6.
Abdulbasit has no previous convictions.
The judge granted him conditional bail to a Birmingham address, with requirements to check in with police twice weekly. He must have no contact with the victim or the coach driver.
His trial is scheduled for November 2028 and is expected to last three to four days.
