A massive fire engulfed the Raikes Clough industrial estate in Bolton just after 2:30am on Friday, March 13. The sky was illuminated red as firefighters confronted a fierce blaze consuming a large pile of scrap metal.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue swiftly dispatched six fire engines from stations in Bolton, Farnworth, Atherton, and Bolton North. They were supported by an aerial appliance and a high-volume pump to tackle the intense flames rising from the burning scrap heap.
A fire service spokesperson said, “Crews have been working hard through the night to bring the fire under control and stop it spreading. They used handheld jets and a ground monitor to contain the flames. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported.”
Smoke from the fire has blanketed the surrounding area, leading authorities to advise residents to keep windows and doors closed and avoid the vicinity. Support teams from Greater Manchester Police, the Environment Agency, and Bolton Council are assisting in managing the scene.
Road closures are in effect, including Raikes Lane, which remains closed both ways between Aqueduct Road and Burnden Road due to ongoing fire operations. Officials continue to work around the clock to secure the industrial estate and extinguish the blaze.
