A man from Crawley has been jailed after subjecting a woman to a terrifying campaign of violence and intimidation. The victim was left battered, bruised, and so frightened for her life that she hid inside a discarded fridge on the street to escape the abuse.
Joshua Maguire, aged 29, was sentenced in March 2026 for a chilling spree of abuse against a woman in her early 30s. The abuse escalated on October 14, 2025, when the victim fled Maguire’s home in Crawley during a visit. Fearing for her safety, she ran from the property and sought refuge inside a street-side fridge, desperately trying to call a friend for help.
The nightmare continued the following day, October 15, when Maguire threatened to “trash” the victim’s flat. He followed through on his threats by smashing the property, flooding it, and damaging numerous belongings. Maguire also sent the victim videos and photos of the destruction, accompanied by fresh threats of serious harm.
Police confirmed that the victim was left traumatised by the ordeal, having suffered both physical and emotional abuse. Maguire was quickly arrested, charged, and sentenced for his violent offences.
Authorities have emphasised the serious nature of domestic abuse and urged all victims to seek help and report such behaviour immediately to protect themselves and others.
