A synagogue in London’s Finchley was targeted just after midnight when two balaclava-wearing assailants threw petrol-filled bottles and a brick at Finchley Reform Synagogue. Fortunately, the petrol bottles did not ignite, preventing what could have been a devastating fire.
This chilling incident is the second suspected antisemitic hate crime in north London within the last month. Police have launched an urgent manhunt to find the masked perpetrators before they can strike again.
Sarah Sackman, Courts Minister and MP for Finchley and Golders Green, condemned the attack. She said: “Thankfully no one has been hurt. This shocking attempt to harm a local synagogue follows a series of alarming attacks on the Jewish community in Finchley and Golders Green. As your local MP, and as a member of the community, I refuse to allow this to become the ‘new normal’.”
She added: “British Jews must be free to go about their lives without fear – whether taking their children to nursery or attending synagogue. We do not want to live behind ever higher walls.”
The attack has left the local Jewish community shaken and demanding tougher security measures. With police actively searching for the suspects, authorities have vowed to bring those responsible to justice and to protect London’s Jewish residents from further threats.
