A woman has admitted stabbing another woman in broad daylight outside an Asda supermarket in Derby.
Armed police officers rushed to Arleston Lane, Sinfin, following reports of a stabbing just after 8:35pm on Wednesday, 5 November. The victim, a woman in her 40s, sustained a non-life-threatening injury to her wrist.
A bystander recorded the attack on their phone and alerted the police. Using the footage, officers identified the suspect as Lisa Kelly.
Kelly disappeared after the attack but was located and arrested on Saturday, 8 November. During questioning, she admitted to meeting the victim earlier that day while they drank together. The two then had a confrontation near a cash machine by Asda.
Kelly claimed that the victim’s dog bit her, prompting her to run into the store to ask staff to call the police. However, she then stole a pack of knives from the supermarket and returned outside, allegedly to ‘scare’ the victim. Instead, she slashed the woman’s wrist.
The victim spoke about the impact of the attack, stating, “Directly after this incident my anxiety increased to the point that I was not able to go out at all, and I was unable to sleep.”
Lisa Kelly, 40, from Burton Road, Derby, was charged with Section 20 GBH without intent, theft, and possession of a bladed article in public. She pleaded guilty at Derby Crown Court on 8 April and is due to be sentenced on 28 May.
