Five suspects have been arrested after a shocking street robbery and stabbing spree across Southampton and Netley on Monday afternoon and evening. Police have launched an investigation and are seeking witnesses who may have captured footage or hold crucial information about the incidents.
The violence began around 4.15pm on Station Road, Netley, where officers were called to intervene in a fight involving a group of youths. A 15-year-old boy was found injured with wounds to his arm and chest. Fortunately, his injuries are not believed to be serious.
After dispersing the group, police report that the youngsters boarded a train heading west towards Southampton. Upon arrival in Sholing, further trouble erupted.
At 6.30pm on Sholing Road, a 15-year-old boy was threatened by a gang of boys and girls who demanded his mobile phone. The group took the phone and left without further violence.
The violence escalated again at 8pm when emergency crews were called to Merryoak Road in Sholing. A 19-year-old man had suffered stabbing injuries and was transported to Southampton General Hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.
Five teenagers from Southampton are now in custody in connection with these incidents. Those arrested include an 18-year-old man, a 15-year-old boy, a 15-year-old girl, a 14-year-old boy, and a 13-year-old boy. This marks a serious crackdown by local police on youth violence in the area.
Detective Inspector Rob Heath said, “We believe these incidents are linked and targeted. This kind of disorder will not be tolerated. We are increasing patrols and want anyone who witnessed what happened to contact us immediately.”
He added, “Did you catch anything on dash cam, CCTV, or your phone? Were you on the train heading west to Southampton after 4pm and saw a group of young people? Your information could be vital.”
