Heathrow Airport experienced significant disruption on Friday evening after a drone was spotted flying over the perimeter fence and into the runway area just after 8pm. This intrusion forced the immediate closure of one of the airport’s runways.
Heathrow officials confirmed that the runway will remain closed “until it is safe to do so,” resulting in the cancellation of all flights for the foreseeable future. This has left tens of thousands of travellers stranded and caused widespread disruption to flight schedules.
The Metropolitan Police have been contacted for comment as investigations into the drone intrusion are ongoing. Authorities are working to regain control and ensure the safety of one of the UK’s busiest airports.
Passengers and airlines are advised to stay updated as the situation develops and further information becomes available.
