An 80-year-old woman was tragically killed when her home in East London went up in flames early on the morning of Wednesday, December 28.

Around 5.30 a.m., emergency services were called to Higham Hill Road in Walthamstow following reports of a house fire near the junction with Mayfield Road.

Six fire engines and a turntable ladder from the London Fire Brigade arrived promptly at the scene. Despite their valiant efforts to control the blaze, the elderly resident was sadly pronounced dead at the property.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the fire is not being treated as suspicious. The area remains cordoned off while fire investigators work to determine the cause of the blaze.

The victim’s next of kin have been informed by the authorities.
