Constance Marten and Mark Gordon were spotted in Stanmer Villas, Brighton, just before 9.30pm on Monday, February 27. Following a tip-off from a member of the public, police swiftly arrested the couple. They remain in custody as the search for their missing baby intensifies.
The Metropolitan Police have launched an urgent search to locate the couple’s newborn, who has not received any medical attention since arriving in early January. Authorities have expressed serious concerns for the baby’s health and welfare.
Marten, 35, and Gordon, 48, have been on the run across the UK since their car caught fire on the M61 in Bolton, Greater Manchester, on January 5. After the incident, they travelled by taxi through several locations including Bolton, Liverpool, Harwich, East London, and finally Newhaven, Sussex. They were last seen near the Newhaven ferry terminal on January 8.
Constance Marten comes from a wealthy aristocratic family and was a promising drama student before meeting Gordon in 2016. The couple withdrew from public life, moving between rental apartments while Marten was pregnant. It remains unclear whether their baby was born full-term or if there are any health issues.
Police believe the couple had been hiding in a blue tent, avoiding CCTV cameras and frequently moving to evade capture. With the parents now in custody, the urgent search for their baby continues.
