Emergency services responded to a car crash on Picardy Road, Belvedere, this evening after a vehicle smashed into the central barrier and flipped over. Several passengers were trapped inside the overturned car.

The incident occurred near Asda Belvedere just before 8pm on Sunday, 9 April 2023. Police, fire crews, and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service quickly arrived at the scene.

Firefighters stabilised the crushed vehicle and used cutting equipment and rams to free those trapped inside. A specialist Paramedic “HART” team was also called in to assist the injured.

According to the Metropolitan Police, two people were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The collision resulted in a full road closure in both directions on Picardy Road. Local bus routes 229, 401, and 469 were rerouted, causing disruption for commuters. Drivers have been urged to avoid Picardy Road and seek alternative routes.

One bystander reported seeing blue salvage sheets and a tent erected at the scene, indicating the seriousness of the rescue operation.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Police were called by the London Ambulance Service shortly before 8pm on Sunday to reports of an overturned car on Lower Road in Belvedere. Emergency services attended swiftly. Two people were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.”
