Tragedy struck just after 10pm on Thursday, January 26, 2023, when emergency services rushed to a single-vehicle collision on Lee Valley Road near King George’s Reservoir.
Eyewitnesses reported that a woman was trapped inside a burning vehicle after crashing at high speed into a set of gates. The car quickly erupted into flames, leaving the driver trapped inside.
Despite desperate efforts from paramedics and firefighters, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation into the crash has now begun. Lee Valley Road, at its junction with Sewardstone Road, was closed overnight as collision investigators examined the scene for clues.
The vehicle involved is believed to be an electric car. Forensics teams conducted a thorough examination of both the damaged vehicle and the crash site.
The Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, and London Ambulance Service have been contacted but released few details about the incident. The road closure is expected to remain in place until mid-morning.
