Constance Marten, an aristocrat, and her partner Mark Gordon were arrested in Brighton after a tip-off from the public led police to Stanmer Villas just before 9.30pm on Monday, February 27. Sussex Police arrested the pair, who remain in custody as the investigation continues.
The Metropolitan Police have launched an urgent search for the couple’s newborn baby, who has not received any medical attention since being born in early January. Authorities are concerned about the baby’s wellbeing, as it is unknown whether the infant was full-term or has any health complications.
Marten, 35, and Gordon, 48, have been on the move since their car caught fire on the M61 motorway in Bolton on January 5. Following the incident, they were seen taking taxis from Bolton to Liverpool, then Harwich, East London, and finally Newhaven, Sussex, near the ferry terminal on January 8.
Police believe the couple was living rough in a blue tent and evading capture by frequently changing locations and hiding their faces from CCTV cameras.
Constance Marten comes from a wealthy aristocratic family and was previously a promising drama student. She met Mark Gordon in 2016. Since then, the couple has lived under the radar, with Marten moving between rented apartments during her pregnancy last September.
