GB News has remained silent on the growing scandal surrounding presenter Dan Wootton as the police probe continues. The broadcaster has revealed it is “monitoring” the claims against Wootton but emphasised that no independent body has yet “proved” the allegations.
Wootton, who hosts a self-titled show on GB News, faces serious accusations involving the use of fake online profiles and paying media colleagues for explicit content involving themselves.
The scandal deepened recently after Wootton was criticised by Dame Caroline and Mail Online paused his column indefinitely. The Metropolitan Police confirmed it is currently assessing information to decide if any crimes have occurred but insisted there is no formal investigation ongoing at this stage.
During a broadcast in July, Wootton dismissed the claims, describing the situation as a “witch hunt” led by “nefarious players.” Meanwhile, GB News’s chief legal officer, Mr Frangopoulos, confirmed that the allegations originated from concerns raised by staff members.
Alongside the Wootton controversy, GB News has also been covering serious sexual assault and rape allegations against comedian Russell Brand. Frangopoulos defended the broadcaster’s reporting on both cases, emphasising that none of the claims against Brand or Wootton have been proven by any independent authority.
Russell Brand has repeatedly denied all accusations, stating that all relationships were consensual.
The situation has sparked tense debates on air. Presenter Bev Turner expressed vocal support for Brand, suggesting that the allegations were pushed to silence his anti-vaccine stance and media influence. Wootton himself warned viewers against jumping to conclusions about anyone accused of inappropriate sexual conduct.
Frangopoulos concluded by assuring that GB News has allowed full discussion of the issue, in line with strict Ofcom rules.
