Titoo Tahir, 38, of Chamberlayne Road, London, was sentenced to six and a half years in prison for sexually abusing a teenage boy after grooming him on social media. Tahir pretended to be aged between 15 and 17 to deceive the victim, leading to a horrifying ordeal.
On 11 September 2021, Tahir met the boy at Strood Train Station. They then walked to a deserted warehouse where Tahir sexually abused the teenager. He threatened to harm the boy’s family if he did not comply. Tahir forced the victim to return the following day, committing further sexual offences while giving the boy cash and warning him to remain silent.
The victim bravely confided in someone just days later, prompting Kent Police to begin an investigation on 16 September. Police linked the offences to Tahir, who was already serving a sentence in the Metropolitan Police area for similar sexual crimes. Evidence including DNA, phone records, and CCTV footage led to Tahir being charged with seven sexual offences, including three counts of inciting a 13-15-year-old to sexual activity.
On 18 October at Maidstone Crown Court, Tahir pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to six and a half years in prison. He will serve four years on licence after release. Tahir is already serving a four-year and one-month sentence for related offences in Bromley, with both sentences running concurrently. The court also imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed him on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
Detective Luke Grimmett of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said, “Tahir used social media to groom and betray the trust of a young, vulnerable boy. He forced the victim to an isolated building and threatened harm to his family. His sentence reflects his dangerous nature. I commend the brave young victim whose courage led to his arrest and punishment.”
Detective Chief Inspector Jo Lloyd from the Metropolitan Police’s Online Child Abuse team added, “Our joint efforts with Kent Police ensured Tahir received a lengthy custodial sentence. He targeted multiple children online, causing trauma across the board. If you suspect your child is a victim of online grooming, report it immediately.”
