A grim victory for justice unfolded as 38-year-old David Kidd from Appleford Court, Basildon, was convicted for sexually assaulting a girl under 10. The chilling case unravelled swiftly after the brave victim reported the abuse in November 2020.

The young girl, whose identity remains protected, came forward with her shocking story. Specialist Child Abuse Investigation Team officers supported her throughout the frightening ordeal.

Police arrested Kidd, who made telling comments during questioning. Forensic examinations of his phones and laptop uncovered disturbing internet searches about children alongside indecent images.

In September 2021, Kidd was charged with two counts of sexually assaulting a girl under 13, plus three counts of possessing indecent images. Despite initially pleading not guilty, proceedings were delayed due to Covid and a barrister strike.

On day two of his Basildon Crown Court trial, Kidd changed his plea and admitted all charges on 18 July 2024.

Detective Sergeant Ellie Nudd, who led the investigation, praised the victim’s strength and the family’s support during the difficult case. Kidd’s confession spared the young girl the trauma of testifying in court.

David Kidd’s sentencing is scheduled for Friday, 8 September 2024, at Basildon Crown Court.
