The Epsom College community has been deeply shaken by the tragic deaths of Emma Pattison, 45, her husband George, 39, and their seven-year-old daughter Lettie. Their bodies were discovered early on Sunday morning at a property located within the grounds of Epsom College.
Emma Pattison was the respected Headteacher of Epsom College, which is currently recognised as the Independent School of the Year. She is remembered fondly as a “wonderful teacher” and a “delightful person” with a “distinguished career.”
The South East Coast Ambulance Service alerted Surrey Police, who arrived at the scene at approximately 1.10 a.m. Authorities have confirmed the deaths and stated that the family’s next of kin have been informed and are receiving support during this difficult time.
A Surrey Police spokesman said, “At this stage, police are confident this is an isolated incident with no third-party involvement.” Detective Chief Inspector Kimball Edey offered condolences and assured the public, saying, “I want to assure a thorough investigation will take place to bring some peace in these traumatic circumstances. We ask for privacy for the family at this difficult time.”
The tragedy has caused concern in the local community. Epsom and Ewell Borough Commander, Inspector Jon Vale, reassured residents that officers will remain nearby to support and reassure students, parents, and staff as the investigation continues.
The deaths have been reported to the Coroner. Dr Alastair Wells, Chair of Governors at Epsom College, stated, “We are in utter shock and disbelief. Emma enriched the lives of pupils and staff alike. We ask for time and space to grieve and will commemorate Emma and her family when the time is right.”
A strong police presence remains at the site and surrounding area as the inquiry progresses. The local community’s patience and understanding have been gratefully acknowledged by authorities.
