Jamie Simpson, a 30-year-old man from the Isle of Wight, has been charged with grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and possession of an offensive weapon after a brutal bottle attack in Lake.

The incident occurred on Friday, December 20, when Simpson allegedly smashed a bottle over the head of a 21-year-old woman, causing significant injuries. The attack prompted a large manhunt across the Isle of Wight as Simpson went on the run.

Police arrested Simpson early on Sunday morning, ending the search. He currently remains in custody and is due to appear at Newport Magistrates Court tomorrow (Monday) to face the serious charges related to the assault.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers investigating a serious assault in Lake have charged a man with GBH with intent and possession of an offensive weapon. The victim was left with significant injuries following Friday’s incident.”
