A man tragically died after being hit by a motorcycle on a pedestrian crossing on Clarence Esplanade, Southsea, Portsmouth, at around 2.15pm.
The collision prompted a major emergency response involving multiple agencies.
Paramedics, including crews from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, were called to the scene immediately. Despite their efforts to save the man’s life, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two people on the motorcycle sustained injuries and were treated on-site before being taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital.
Authorities closed the road between Jack Cockerill Road and The Dell to allow emergency teams to work safely. Hampshire Police sealed off the area and launched a full investigation.
Crash investigators examined the scene, using forensic tools to gather evidence and photograph the area. Officers also spoke to eyewitnesses to determine the circumstances of the collision.
A Hampshire Police spokesperson said, “His next of kin has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers at this time.”
One fire engine from Southsea and a support vehicle from Cosham attended shortly after the crash to assist police and paramedics during the operation.
Motorists are urged to avoid Clarence Esplanade while the police continue their inquiry. Alternative routes are advised as the road is expected to remain closed for some time.
