A paedophile has been sentenced to 11 years in prison following a conviction for multiple sexual offences committed over a 13-year period. Richard Rowles, aged 42, from Sunbury-on-Thames, was found guilty of ten sexual offences, including assaults on a child under 16, at Guildford Crown Court on Thursday, 27 June.
The abuse began in 2003 when the victim was only six years old. Surrey Police launched an investigation in October 2017 after the victim courageously came forward to report the crimes. Following a thorough inquiry, Rowles was arrested and charged.
Detective Constable Sara McDowell praised the victim’s bravery, stating, “Richard Rowles committed multiple sexual offences against the victim, which began when she was just 6 years old. I want to pay tribute to the victim for her bravery in coming forward and reliving her ordeal in court. I hope this lengthy jail sentence helps her to move on with her life.”
Surrey Police have emphasised that they take all reports of sexual offences seriously and encourage anyone who believes they have been a victim to come forward. Members of the public can contact the police by calling 101 or dial 999 in emergencies.
