Millionaire businessman Ron Carey, aged 80, has tragically died in a horror crash on the busy M23 motorway. The Canadian tycoon was involved in a fatal collision when his rare vintage car collided with a lorry.
Friends revealed that Ron Carey mistakenly took a wrong turn onto the bustling M23 before the deadly crash near Hooley. He was driving a rare 1903 Knox Runabout Old Porcupine, part of his £3.8 million collection of classic cars.
Carey’s wife, Billi, who was a passenger in the classic car at the time of the accident, was seriously injured and airlifted to hospital for emergency treatment. Sadly, Ron Carey was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for Surrey Police confirmed the details of the incident, stating: “We can confirm that a man has sadly died following a collision on the southbound carriageway of the M23 near J7 Hooley on Sunday. The collision, involving a vintage car and a heavy goods vehicle, occurred around 10am. The 80-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the collision, and his female passenger has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. Next of kin have been informed.”
The investigation into the crash is ongoing as police continue to work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
