Two festival-goers have tragically died after falling ill at this year’s Mutiny Festival held in Portsmouth. The victims, an 18-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man, both from West Leigh, were found unconscious at the event on Saturday evening.
Despite frantic CPR efforts by on-site medics and paramedics, both individuals were later pronounced dead in hospital. Police have confirmed that the deaths are not being treated as suspicious, but investigations remain ongoing.
The incidents occurred at King George V Playing Fields in Cosham, the location of the festival. At approximately 7:10 pm, the 18-year-old woman fell ill and was rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital, where she sadly passed away. Around 20 minutes later, the 20-year-old man was found collapsed on the festival site and was also taken to the same hospital, where he later died.
A police spokesperson stated: “The deaths are not being treated as suspicious but enquiries continue to establish the circumstances. Officers are working closely with Mutiny Festival organisers and supporting friends and witnesses. Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incidents to contact police by calling 101.
The double tragedy has deeply affected the local community, casting a shadow over the popular festival. Families and festival-goers have expressed shock and devastation following the events. In response, officials are increasing safety measures for future events to prevent similar occurrences.
