A tense cordon was established at Bembridge Point on the Isle of Wight after a member of the public reported what appeared to be unexploded ordnance on Sunday afternoon.
A local resident noticed a large metal object, approximately two feet long, partially buried in the sand. Concerned, they contacted Bembridge Coastguard, who promptly arrived at the scene.
The Coastguard quickly secured the area and sent photographs of the object to the Royal Navy’s Bomb Disposal (EOD) team for evaluation.
By 5.40pm, the situation was resolved when Nigel Bennett, owner of a nearby gravel yard, identified the object as a digger bucket pin. He confidently picked it up, threw it on the ground, and then took the “lost” pin back to his yard.
The bomb squad and Coastguard subsequently lifted the cordon and confirmed there was no danger.
