Police are investigating a fatal crash on the A127 Southend Arterial Road that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist. The collision occurred at 9am on Wednesday, 3 July, just after the Hall Lane interchange on the eastbound carriageway.

A motorcycle and a car collided, leaving the rider critically injured. The motorcyclist, a 50-year-old man, was taken to hospital but sadly passed away from his injuries on Saturday evening, 6 July. His family have been informed and have identified him as Colin Chapman from Harold Wood.

The driver of the car, a 39-year-old woman, remained at the scene and was not arrested.

Detective Constable Darren Case of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said, “We are piecing together the events leading to this fatal collision. We especially need to hear from the occupants of a white van and a black car, who were behind the motorcyclist and may have witnessed the crash.”

Police are urging anyone who saw the collision or has dash cam footage to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath on 020 8597 4874. Alternatively, witnesses can call 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting CAD 2012/3July.
