Sussex Police have issued a statement following a chaotic protest that took place in Brighton city centre on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Rival groups clashed in the busy area, prompting police officers to intervene and restore order.
During the protest, a 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence. However, after further inquiries, police released him without charge, having cleared him of any wrongdoing.
Additionally, a 66-year-old man from London was arrested on allegations of common assault. He was also quickly de-arrested following further investigation by the authorities.
Reports from the event indicated that a woman was leading chants through a loudspeaker. Sussex Police have expressed concerns about some of the language used by the woman, suggesting it might have the potential to harm local communities. The police force is currently investigating whether any laws were breached during the rally.
Sussex Police confirmed that the investigation remains active. They have pledged to hold accountable anyone found guilty of committing criminal offences during the incident. In the meantime, officers will maintain a strong presence in Brighton’s city centre to prevent any further disturbances.
