Police have launched a homicide inquiry following the discovery of three bodies early on Sunday, 5 February, at a property within Epsom College.
Officers arrived at the scene around 1:10am after receiving an emergency call from South East Coast Ambulance Service. They found the bodies of Emma Pattison, aged 45, her husband George Pattison, aged 39, and their daughter Lettie, aged 7.
The deaths have been reported to the coroner for formal identification. A licensed firearm, registered to George Pattison, was recovered from the scene. However, official causes of death will not be confirmed until post-mortem results are completed later this week.
Police have stated they are confident no third party was involved in the incident and that there is no risk to the local community. An extensive investigation is ongoing to establish the full timeline and circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Officers confirmed that George Pattison had notified them of a recent address change on 2 February. Given the short time between this contact and the incident, the case has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for review.
Rumours about a firing range at the site have been denied by police, who clarified that no such range is part of their investigation or the scene.
Detective Chief Inspector Kimball Edey said: “This is an incredibly traumatic incident. We’re working around the clock to understand exactly what happened. We appreciate public concern and will provide updates while respecting the families’ privacy.”
He added, “We are fully cooperating with the IOPC and await their assessment before releasing further details.”
Inspector Jon Vale commented: “This has sent shockwaves through the community. Although we are confident this was isolated to one address with no wider risk, there will be a visible police presence in the area. If you have concerns, please speak to officers who are ready and happy to help.”
He also thanked the school and the public for their patience as the investigation continues.
