The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched an investigation following a serious crash on the A21 near Johns Cross, Sussex, on Thursday, March 16. The collision involved two vehicles, one of which was driven by a 16-year-old boy who was reportedly pursued by police shortly before the accident.
The teenage driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries and was later released into police custody, according to an IOPC spokesperson. The other vehicle carried three passengers who sustained serious injuries and were also admitted to hospital.
The police promptly notified the IOPC, which led investigators to visit the crash scene and initiate post-incident procedures. The watchdog has confirmed that it will contact the families of the victims to offer sympathy and provide information about the ongoing investigation.
The probe is currently in its early stages, with officials collaborating with police and other agencies to establish the exact circumstances of the collision and to determine whether any police misconduct contributed to the incident.
