The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced that a Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) officer will face court charged with the murder of Chris Kaba. This development follows a detailed investigation conducted by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Amanda Rowe, Director of the IOPC, stated: “Today, the CPS announced that an MPS officer will appear in court tomorrow charged with Chris Kaba’s murder, following our investigation.” The CPS informed both the officer and Chris Kaba’s family earlier today, marking a significant turning point in this tragic case.

Due to legal restrictions, the identity of the officer remains confidential at this time. However, it is confirmed that the officer will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning. Amanda Rowe appealed to the public to allow the justice process to proceed without interference and to avoid sharing any information online that could jeopardise the case.

On September 5, 2022, Chris Kaba was fatally shot by a single bullet fired by an MPS officer into the vehicle Kaba was driving. The IOPC conducted a thorough investigation which concluded in March 2023, after which evidence was handed over to the CPS. Following this, the CPS authorised murder charges against the officer involved.

As the trial date approaches, public attention remains focused on the courtroom proceedings. Many hope the case will provide answers and justice for Chris Kaba’s family, while also prompting a wider discussion about police use of force in the United Kingdom.
