An 18-year-old motorcyclist lost his life in a fatal crash in central London early Monday morning. The collision occurred around 6:45am on Tottenham Court Road.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched a full investigation into the incident following notification from the Metropolitan Police.

The drama began when the motorcyclist failed to stop for two marked Metropolitan Police motorcycles. Moments later, the motorcycle collided with a taxi, killing the rider at the scene.

The rider’s 17-year-old passenger sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

IOPC investigators promptly arrived at the scene and secured evidence. An IOPC spokesperson said, “Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic incident.”

The IOPC has pledged to conduct a thorough investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the crash and determine if any factors contributed to the deadly outcome.
