Two people have died and two others were injured following a crash on the A458 in Shropshire involving a police crime scene investigation (CSI) vehicle and a Skoda Octavia.
The collision occurred at approximately 10:15 am on Saturday, 9 December. The Skoda driver, a man in his 60s, and his female passenger in her 50s died at the scene around 45 minutes after the crash. A younger female passenger in her 20s sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the CSI vehicle, a police officer, was seriously injured and was taken to a hospital in Birmingham for treatment.
West Mercia Police confirmed that the CSI vehicle was not responding to an emergency at the time of the collision. The incident is currently under investigation by the force’s Professional Standards Department and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Chief Superintendent Gareth Morris expressed condolences to the families affected and wished a speedy recovery to the injured officer. He also requested privacy for those involved during this difficult time.
Authorities have urged anyone with information about the crash to contact West Mercia Police or Crimestoppers. The official reference number for the incident is 166i.
