A tragic incident occurred on the M25 near Upminster on February 23, when a man lost his life after a high-speed police chase ended in a fatal crash.
Just before 1pm, police officers attempted to stop a vehicle travelling on the M25 anti-clockwise carriageway. The driver did not comply, leading to a tense pursuit by the police.
Within two minutes, the vehicle collided with the roadside barrier at the A127 slip road near junction 29. Emergency responders arrived quickly and provided first aid, but paramedics found the man critically injured and he was pronounced dead at the scene before he could be taken to hospital. There were no other occupants in the car at the time of the crash.
The police force has referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which has initiated a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the chase and crash.
The crash caused significant traffic delays on both sides of the Dartford Crossing. Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet come forward to contact the police on 101, quoting reference number 3090/23Feb.
