Chaos erupted at HMYOI Aylesbury when inmates on E Wing staged a riot in protest against restricted shower access and lockdown rules. The young offenders expressed their anger by throwing paint, smashing fire alarms, and damaging cameras.
Four prison officers sustained minor injuries during the unrest at the Buckinghamshire facility. According to sources, the inmates were frustrated by the regime allowing only one shower per week and no weekend association time outside their cells. Some prisoners refused to return to their cells and climbed onto safety netting, refusing to come down.
A woman with a partner inside the prison said, “There’s a new regime. They get just one shower on Monday, then nothing until Saturday – and no weekend association like playing pool. This morning they were allowed another shower but were told they’d be locked up again with no explanation. That’s when everyone refused to go back.”
While her partner avoided the disturbance and returned to his cell, others went on a rampage, causing significant damage to the wing. A prisoner even managed to send pictures of the chaos using a banned mobile phone.
The Prison Service condemned the incident, stating, “Offenders who behave in this way will be punished and may face extra time behind bars.” Officials said they are working to restore order and address the concerns raised by the regime changes.
