Fire crews rushed to Wormwood Scrubs Prison after an inmate deliberately set his cell ablaze. The Victorian jail, which houses up to 1,279 prisoners, experienced the incident on “D wing.”

Prison staff acted swiftly, extinguishing the flames before firefighters arrived. The London Fire Brigade was automatically notified, following protocol for any prison fire.

“Staff quickly extinguished the cell fire. No one was injured, and the fire brigade were called,” a Prison Service spokesperson confirmed.

Thanks to the prompt response, no prisoners or staff were harmed. Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to check for any remaining hotspots.

The inmate responsible will face disciplinary action and be placed on report for the incident.
