The M1 southbound between junctions 15 and 14 is currently closed after a major collision involving a fully loaded fuel tanker. Police and Highways England have shut the road, and the closure could last for several hours.
Emergency crews from Bucks Fire and Rescue rushed to the scene where the tanker was badly damaged, leaking large amounts of fuel across the carriageway. This significant fuel spill has worsened the situation, forcing a full closure of the motorway.
The crash occurred near junction 15, causing severe rush-hour traffic delays with thousands of motorists stuck in long queues. A Bucks Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “Crews are at the scene of a collision involving a petrol tanker and car on the M1 southbound between Junction 15 and Newport Pagnell Services.”
Fortunately, no one was trapped in the accident. A man and a woman sustained minor injuries and were treated by South Central Ambulance Service. Another man involved escaped without injury.
Fire crews from Broughton and Great Holm attended the incident, along with a fire officer. Authorities continue to manage the scene, and more updates will follow as the situation develops.
