The RNLI carried out a dramatic water rescue off Netley, Southampton, on Tuesday evening, 25th July, saving a man in a medical emergency. The distress call was received during a local Coastguard search and rescue (CRT) team’s training exercise just yards from the incident.
The Coastguard helicopter was scrambled to assist alongside the Calshot lifeboat, which was the first on the scene. The seriously ill man was quickly transferred from the lifeboat to the helicopter, enabling a rapid medical evacuation.
The patient was airlifted to Southampton and then rushed by land ambulance to Southampton General Hospital. A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service confirmed that crews and specialist paramedics arrived at Beach Lane, Netley Abbey, at 9pm to assess and treat the patient.
