Emergency crews rushed to tackle a fire that broke out on a train near Burnham this evening. The blaze, believed to have started in the driver’s cab, has caused major disruption across several rail services.
Fortunately, all passengers on the affected train, including those on the Fife Ted service, are reported safe and well. Firefighters are working closely with Network Rail and the British Transport Police to bring the situation under control.
Network Rail confirmed that all lines near Burnham railway station are currently blocked, resulting in severe delays and cancellations. The affected services include Heathrow Express, Heathrow Connect, and Great Western Railway.
Trains running between Reading, Heathrow Airport, and London Paddington are experiencing delays of up to 90 minutes or cancellations. Disruption is expected to continue until at least 3:30am.
The South Central Ambulance Service has deployed several resources to the scene alongside the fire brigade. Fire commanders remain on-site, coordinating the ongoing response to ensure the fire is fully extinguished and that services can resume safely.
Network Rail has warned travellers to expect ongoing delays and advised checking for live updates before travelling.
