A shocking crash on Shirley Road in Southampton occurred when a car smashed into a Bluestar double-decker bus, leaving 14 passengers trapped inside and causing significant disruption.
The collision took place just before 11:45am on Wednesday at the busy junction of Shirley Road and Cawte Road. A Hyundai collided with the bus, which is one of Southampton’s busiest routes, resulting in major traffic chaos during rush hour.
Emergency crews responded promptly to the incident. Firefighters from Redbridge and St Mary’s fire stations arrived to assist, along with paramedics from the South Central Ambulance Service. Fortunately, the bus driver escaped injury.
Two people were treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Southampton General Hospital for further medical care. The road remains closed as emergency teams continue to work on freeing the trapped passengers and clearing the wreckage.
