Drama unfolded on Hayling Island as emergency services carried out a daring mud rescue near Hayling Yacht Services on Sunday evening. Hayling and Selsey Coastguard joined forces with Hampshire Fire and Rescue after a person became stranded in thick mud approximately 20 metres from dry land just after 6pm.
A lifeboat from Portsmouth was called to assist in the rescue. However, mud and shallow water prevented the lifeboat from reaching the casualty, forcing crews to seek an alternative approach.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue then deployed a specialised inflatable mud path to secure the stranded individual. This innovative method enabled the casualty to be safely brought back to solid ground.
Once ashore, the youngest member of the rescue party was handed over to paramedics from the South Central Ambulance Service for medical care. The quick and coordinated efforts of the emergency services ensured the incident ended without injury.
