Emergency crews have launched a major rescue operation near Merlin Boat Yard, Hazel Road, Itchen in Southampton after a man fell from his boat and became trapped deep in the mud.

The incident occurred this morning shortly after 9:40 am, prompting a swift response from multiple emergency services racing against the incoming tide to save the man.

Two Coastguard search and rescue teams from Hillhead and Southampton RNLI Lifeboat crew from Calshot, alongside fire crews from Hampshire Fire and Rescue and paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service, are all working together at the scene.

A safety cordon has been established around the area while teams use an inflatable pathway to reach and free the casualty from the mud.

The rescue effort is ongoing as crews battle challenging conditions to bring the man to safety. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
