The northbound carriageway of the A3 at Buriton is currently closed after a serious multi-vehicle collision. Hampshire Constabulary’s roads policing team is at the scene managing the situation.

Multiple emergency crews, including Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance critical care doctors and a Hart team, have been dispatched to assist. Initial reports indicate that four vehicles were involved in the crash, with two of them overturned.

Police have turned back drivers caught in long queues and have warned that the road closure could last for several hours.

A local diversion is in place to help motorists avoid the congestion. Drivers are advised to exit the A3 northbound at the Weston interchange. At the roundabout, take the first exit onto the B2070 and continue for approximately 2 miles through Petersfield to the A272 London Road roundabout. Then take the first exit onto the A272 and continue for 1 mile before crossing over the main carriageway to rejoin the A3 northbound. Motorists should follow the “Solid Diamond” diversion signs guiding this route.

The South Central Ambulance Service has not yet confirmed the severity of any injuries sustained in the collision. As of 1pm, the A3 northbound remains closed with diversions firmly in place.
