Armed police carried out a large operation in Reading after an early morning incident involving bladed weapons on Oxford Road.
At around 4.50am, officers responded to reports of a violent altercation near Lloyds Pharmacy. Armed police and other emergency services quickly arrived at an address where several individuals were found carrying bladed weapons.
As a safety measure, Oxford Road was closed while officers secured the scene and made multiple arrests. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported during the incident.
Police confirmed that the investigation into the event is ongoing. Motorists were advised to avoid the area during the disruption.
Paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service were on standby but did not treat anyone at the scene.
Oxford Road was reopened by 11am following the incident. Nine people are currently in custody, facing suspicion of public order offences and weapons charges.
