The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Ambulance Service deployed its yellow and green helicopter late on Sunday night to carry out a life-saving airlift on the Isle of Wight. Just after 11.30pm, the helicopter took off from Thruxton Airport near Andover to begin the urgent mission.
The medical crew landed at St Mary’s Hospital shortly before midnight to transfer a seriously ill patient. Following this critical pickup, the patient was flown by air to a nearby Southampton golf course.
On the ground, a South Central Ambulance Service team was waiting to complete the rapid road transfer to Southampton General Hospital. This coordinated operation highlights the essential teamwork between air and road ambulance services in delivering urgent medical care.
